H*QUE had a pretty good weekend at the 2010 Kick-Off Cook-Off in Hazelwood, MO. This was the 3rd time H*QUE has attended this contest. A fun local contest we’ve supported since it began. 59 teams this year – lots of heavy hitters! We kept those rib scores rolling from last weekend – took 3rd in ribs again. We also took 3rd in dessert – a first for H*QUE!

However, if you want chicken – don’t call us – we apparently can’t cook it to save our lives. 51st…ACK! Brisket was dead on but didn’t place as well this weekend unfortunately.

A big shout out to my team for their hard work and dedication. Even with the crazy rain, wind and storms that rolled through – Sztukowski and Sparks kept us even on temps and Stel (who apparently made those ribs right – thanks for the work on those!), Michael and Michael’s son Hayden were excellent help! Tillery got that brisket prepped beautifully as always.  Jen got those boxes looking awesome as usual and I ran around trying to keep it all in order LOL!

We’ll see y’all in 2 weeks at Elk’s Lodge – Columbia, MO – with Popeye’s chicken for turn in…LOL!

H*QUE went out and took their first shot at the 2010 season at the Main Street BBQ and Bluesfest in Washington, MO. We had a great time! It was a great venue and other than a little rain and getting a little frosty overnight the weather was great for cooking. Once again, the team came through with flying colors!! I felt that we really gelled and came together and we got some awesome calls as a result! We took 3rd place ribs, 4th place brisket and 8th place overall out of 50 teams!!!! Way to go guys!!

Thanks to my team for working so hard and diligently (as usual) and for making this a successful outing. I’ve come to expect no less from the team members of H*QUE – well done!!!

We had a great team meeting and got everything hashed out for the upcoming comp season. That being said, the comp schedule is up and being kept up to date as much as possible. Just an FYI for those visiting the site wondering which comps we’re going to hit this year, the official H*QUE 2010 Season Kick Off meeting is occuring this Friday – as soon as we have the schedule hammered out – I’ll post it on the Comp Schedule page – really looking forward to the season getting started – seeing our friends on the road again and having some fun!

Wanted to wish my team and everyone stopping by happy holidays. We’ve relaunched the web site – and I’m MUCH happier with it. Our new backyard vertical pit is coming home tomorrow, so let the practicing begin. We’re ramping up for the 2010 season already and plan on working just as hard next year to see about moving up the rankings. We had a great year!! Thanks to my team and friends and family for helping out and working so hard to make it a successful comp year. I plan on even better in 2010! We’ll catch y’all soon – take care!
